Just 2 days in China and I was already tired and exhausted. I remember stretching my back a lot in between presentations and reports. My body was finally catching up with all the jetlagging, travelling, partying. That same day, I took a piss and upon wiping, I noticed light pink/red discharge. I remember feeling a sense of regret as I told Vince, "Hun I think I got my period already..." Though I started to wonder why it never flowed through... That same day, we decided to buy a pregnancy test. We had been reading about symptoms of pregnancy online and we both came across what they call "implantation bleeding" which usually occurs 7-10 days after conception. True enough, upon testing the next morning, all three tests resulted TWO PINK LINES. Positive!!!
I sent my doctor a text message immediately about this development as well as the bleeding I still had. It was a bittersweet moment as she said pregnancy tests were very accurate, but she also said I had to stay in bed as she was worried that I was having a threatened abortion (miscarriage). I missed out on all the tours and local shopping as I was instructed to observe complete bed rest, just bathroom privileges. It was a blessing that we had 5 other Ob-gyne's in our group to look after me, but so frustrating to be in China where they had different medical practices so even if my doctors knew what I needed, I could not get the medicines without having to be seen by a local Chinese practitioner. We decided to just stay put and wait till I got home to be checked because it was just impossible for them to really understand what was going on due to the language barrier. Thank God the bleeding stopped after my first full day of bed rest.
On November 1st, I was back in VRP's Women's Health Center for my next TVS. I was warned before hand that pregnancy tests may turn out to be a false positive result when there is bleeding, or may be a positive pregnancy of all sorts: a positive normal pregnancy, a positive ectopic pregnancy, a positive lupus pregnancy, etc. At this point, I just prayed to God and asked for strength to accept what I was about to hear. Dr. Abat who conducted the TVS, Tita Nini, a medical resident and of course my supportive husband Vince were there. As she inserted the TVS, Dr. Abat excitedly shared with us the good news... WE'RE PREGNANT!!! It was such a magical, surreal moment as she showed me the cardiac activity of the little sweet pea inside me!

I was officially 6 weeks and 2 days! My ob called this a "prized pregnancy" because despite having both my left and right ovaries polycystic, we were able to conceive without any hormonal stimulants. I've never felt so blessed! We are so lucky to have been given this gift at a time when we wanted it the most. :)
Hello! I stumbled upon your blog via Erica Marquez's tweet! Hi! First of all congratulations on your baby! If I may share my experience, my husband and I took us almost six months to get pregnant! (I wasn't even working) so imagine the frustration and the worry we felt but then again just like you the same symptoms of partly bleeding & cramping led to a baby! :D I was also on bed rest for my first trimester because of my low lying placenta and yes, all of the worst symptoms I've experienced but fret not, I see you have all the things you need to know, thanks to the book "What to expect when you're expecting" it really helps because almost all of the questions you want to ask the answers are there. Good luck on your pregnancy, praying for you & your little sweet pea's safety! :)
